Dakar, capital of the Republic of Senegal, is a vibrant city of broad, tree-lined avenues, colorful open-air markets, inviting cafes and just a splash of French elan. Thanks to its usually excellent weather and proximity, Senegal is the most popular nation in West Africa with visitors from Europe seeking sunny beaches and relaxation.
Shopping
The Kermel, Sandaga and Soumbedioune Martkets are located in the city center. Leather articles, wood carvings, gold and silver jewelry, batiks and fabrics may be of interest. In some stores, low-key bargaining may get you a better price on big-ticket items. Store hours are generally from 8:30a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Currency
The local currency is the CFA francs, but the US dollar is generally accepted.
