CME PROGRAM – FAQ’s
How many category 1 credits are offered in your programs?
Our programs are all sponsored by The School of Medicine, State University of New York at Stony Brook, and have been approved for 18 or 24 category 1 continuing medical education AMA/PRA credits. The seminars have also been approved for 18 or 24 prescribed hours by the American Academy of Family Physicians.
In addition, the medicolegal seminars have been approved for 18 or 24 hours of continuing legal, nursing, and dental education.
Total available credits depend on the length of the cruise.
What are category 1 CME credits?
Category 1 CME credits are the highest level of continuing education credits awarded by the AMA.
Where do you get your speakers from?
The entire clinical faculty comes from the School of Medicine, State University of New York (SUNY) at Stony Brook, the legal-medical faculty is recruited nationally, and each faculty member holds both the M.D. and J.D. degree. Eighty percent of the legal-medical faculty is past presidents of the American College of Legal Medicine. IC recruits world renowned physician lecturers, such as Dr. Cyril H. Wecht, one of the top forensic pathologists in the world. Dr. Wecht has worked on such high profile cases as Anna Nicole Smith’s son Daniel, Jean Benet Ramsey, John F. Kennedy, Nicole Brown Simpson and Lacy Peterson.
